Ричард Руссо (родился в 1949 г.) преподавал английский язык в Универстите Южного Иллинойса, когда в 1986 году вышел его первый роман Mohawk. Дебютный роман да и все последующие в той или иной степени можно назвать автобиографичными – Руссо пишет о хорошо знакомой ему жизни, о тех местах, где он жил. В 2002 году роман "Эмпайр Фоллз" получил Пулитцеровскую премию. Всего в библиографии Руссо восемь романов, два сборника рассказов, сборник эссе и книга мемуаров. "Эмпайр Фоллз" и еще один роман – "Без дураков" (1993) – были блестяще экранизированы, в каждом из фильмов сыграл Пол Ньюман. Живет Ричард Руссо в Кэмдене, что в штате Мэн.
