Beschreibungen

This book defines and explores the problem of placing the instances of dynamic data types on the components of the heterogeneous memory organization of an embedded system, with the final goal of reducing energy consumption and improving performance. It is one of the first to cover the problem of placement for dynamic data objects on embedded systems with heterogeneous memory architectures, presenting a complete methodology that can be easily adapted to real cases and work flows. The authors discuss how to improve system performance and energy consumption simultaneously.

Discusses the problem of placement for dynamic data objects on embedded systems with heterogeneous memory architectures;

Presents a complete methodology that can be adapted easily to real cases and work flows;

Offers hints on how to improve system performance and energy consumption simultaneously.

Introduction.- Methodology for the Placement of Dynamic Data Objects.- Design of a Simulator of Heterogeneous Memory Organizations.- Experiments on Data Placement: Results and Discussion.- Conclusion.

Miguel Peón Quirós received his M.Sc. on Computer Engineering (2001) and a Ph.D. on Computer Architecture (2015) from the Complutense University of Madrid. He collaborated as a Marie Curie scholar with IMEC (Belgium) and as a research engineer and postdoctoral researcher with the IMDEA Networks Institute (Madrid, Spain). He has also ample experience in industrial collaborations and has participated in several European Commission founded ERC and H2020 projects. Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland). His research interests include energy optimizations for embedded systems and computer architecture in general.

Francky Catthoor received the engineering degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium in 1982 and 1987 respectively. Between 1987 and 2000, he has headed several research domains in the area ofhigh-level and system synthesis techniques and architectural methodologies. Since 2000 he is also strongly involved in other activities at IMEC including related application and deep submicron technology aspects, biomedical imaging and sensor nodes, and smart photo-voltaic modules, all at the Inter-university Micro-Electronics Center (IMEC), Heverlee, Belgium. Currently he is an IMEC fellow. He is part-time full professor at the EE department of the K.U.Leuven.
In 1986 he received the Young Scientist Award from the Marconi International Fellowship Council. He has been associate editor for several IEEE and ACM journals, like Trans. on VLSI Signal Processing, Trans. on Multi-media, and ACM TODAES. He was the program chair of several conferences including ISSS'97 and SIPS'01. He has been elected an IEEE fellow in 2005.

José Manuel Mendías Cuadros received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, in 1992 and 1998 respectively. In 1992, he joined the Department of Computer Architecture and Systems Engineering, Complutense University of Madrid as a lecturer. He became associate professor in 2001 and full professor in 2005. From 2002 to 2007 he was Vice Dean of the Computer Science Faculty and from 2008 he serves in different positions as IT consultant at the aforementioned University. He has participated in many research projects related mainly with design automation, high-performance computer architectures and fault tolerant embedded systems.
