Our Earth is considered as a natural system which organizes and controls itself.&nbsp; However, the present scale of anthropogenic activity is unprecedented in the history of mankind compelling the intelligentia to ponder over the scientific causes of the problems, processes and sustainable and pragmatic solutions. The current rate of resource use and consumption pattern are depleting the planet’s finite resources and damaging life-supporting ecosystems. A large number of toxic &nbsp;substances are increasingly found in air, water, soil, and flora and fauna. We are in the midst of a period of increasing interconnected and complex global challenges that seek action across temporal and spatial scales, diverse sectors, and concerted efforts from global citizens. The environment on account of human’s action has been experiencing imbalances and ecological catastrophe. Environmental issues like global climate change, biodiversity loss, the rapid depletion of natural resources, degradation ofglobal commons, stratospheric ozone depletion have been restricting the safe operating space and transgressing the planetary boundaries endangering the existence of human societies. The global environmental problems if not scientifically managed may end up in the civilizational collapse. Nevertheless, the underlying commonality among these environmental issues is interrelatedness, complexity, and difficulty in identifying and implementing solutions. The global environmental challenges can be managed by adopting sustainable green technologies which dovetails the principles of environmental sustainability with social and ecological sustainability. Green growth is construed as a new development paradigm that sustains economic growth while at the same time ensuring environmental sustainability.<p></p>

<p></p><p><b>Dr. Shachi Shah</b>&nbsp;is an environmentalist with nearly two decades of teaching and research experience in various reputed Universities and Institutes. She is&nbsp;Associate Professor (Environmental Studies) School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies at IGNOU, New Delhi. A teacher of repute, has more than fifty publication at her credit.&nbsp;Her research interests include green technologies for waste management and energy generation, bioremediation,&nbsp;waste valorization,&nbsp;plant growth promoting organisms,&nbsp;and biodiversity conservation.</p><p><b>Dr. V. Venkat Ramanan&nbsp;</b>is Assistant Professor&nbsp;at the&nbsp;School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies,&nbsp;Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. His area of interest includes climate change&nbsp;studies, biodegradation and green technologies for environmental management. He hasmore than twenty publications, including&nbsp;research papers in peer reviewed journals,&nbsp;and&nbsp;book chapters.</p><p><b>Dr.&nbsp;Ram Prasad&nbsp;</b>is associate with Amity Institute of Microbial Technology, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, India since 2005. His research interest includes plant-microbe-interactions, sustainable agriculture and microbial nanobiotechnology. Dr. Prasad has more than hundred publications to his credit, including research papers, review articles & book chapters and five patents issued or pending, and edited or authored several books. Dr. Prasad has twelve years of teaching experience and he has been awarded the Young Scientist Award (2007) & Prof. J.S. Datta Munshi Gold Medal (2009) by the International Society for Ecological Communications; FSAB fellowship (2010) by the Society for Applied Biotechnology; the American Cancer Society UICC International Fellowship for Beginning Investigators, USA (2014); Outstanding Scientist Award (2015) in the field of Microbiology by Venus International Foundation; BRICPL Science Investigator Award(ICAABT-2017) and Research Excellence Award (2018). Previously, Dr. Prasad served as Visiting Assistant Professor, Whiting School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, USA and presently, working as Research Associate Professor at School of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China.</p><p> </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p></p><p><b></b></p><p></p>
